Inpatient rehabilitation provides acute physical and cognitive rehabilitation for individuals following stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputation or other illnesses and injuries.
No, you have the right to choose your rehabilitation provider - just like you have the right to choose which grocery store you shop or where you purchase a car. The decision is yours. If you don’t see Good Shepherd on the inpatient rehab list provided by your care manager/discharge planner, ask them specifically for a referral to Good Shepherd (e.g., "I choose Good Shepherd"). No, it is never too late to seek a transfer/referral to Good Shepherd. Time is precious, especially after a stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury or major multi-trauma injury. Good Shepherd provides care to qualifying individuals who have one or more conditions requiring intensive and interdisciplinary rehabilitation care. Your rehabilitation diagnosis must be medically manageable (i.e., stroke, amputation, spinal cord or brain injury, orthopedic, neurologic, pulmonary/COPD, etc.) and you must be able to tolerate three hours of therapy in a 24-hour period at least five days a week. Other admission criteria also apply. Good Shepherd admission liaisons are available to discuss your situation and options. We accept most major insurance carriers. First step: Choose Good Shepherd. Tell your discharge planner or care manager you want a referral to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation to get the process started. Our expert and knowledgeable team will evaluate your condition and work with your insurance provider for authorization.
Yes, our expert team at Good Shepherd handles pre-existing conditions and complex medical problems. A physical medicine & rehabilitation physician (physiatrist) manages the care of each patient and will consult with specialists as needed. Patients with complex wounds and multiple pulmonary medications will be considered for admission at Good Shepherd Specialty Hospital. If you're unsure, call us! Yes, we admit patients seven days a week, 365 days a year. We want to begin your recovery the moment you are ready to be discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility.
No, you do not need to be a patient in an acute-care hospital in order to be admitted to an inpatient rehabilitation facility. In fact, Good Shepherd’s Second Chance Program is available to patients with chronic conditions (i.e., Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, post-stroke) who want to increase function and independence.
