Located on the first floor of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Center Valley, Empower+ is Good Shepherd Rehabilitation’s accessible makerspace where people come together to solve everyday challenges through creativity, collaboration and making.
We partner with individuals with disabilities, caregivers, clinicians, students, and community members to design and create personalized solutions that promote independence and participation. Led by Katelyn Amy, PT, DPT, 3D Printing Clinical Specialist, Empower+ combines clinical expertise, design thinking and innovative technologies, including 3D printing, to create meaningful solutions.
Workshops and events use a human-centered design framework, ensuring the people we serve remain at the center of every project.
3D printing
Within Empower+ is the 3D print lab, an on-site space designed to produce 3D-printed tools and devices that promote greater independence and improved quality of life for those living with or recovering from disease or injury, such as stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputation and multiple sclerosis.
More than 4,500 devices have been printed for our patients, long-term-care residents, care partners and team members. Devices range from modified hand grips, playing card and phone holders, to custom styluses for touch screen devices and educational models and everything in between.
We create custom solutions to improve quality of life and independence for individuals with disabilities.
Workshops and events
Empower+ hosts a variety of workshops to foster collaboration and creativity through prototyping solutions with and for individuals with disabilities.
Opportunities include large CoLabs, Prototyping at the Point of Care and continuing education opportunities based around human-centered design and 3D printing.
We also provide community educational events, such as Traveling with a Disability, and are open to hosting groups for formal or informal presentations, workshops and outside networking events.
