Pediatric Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program

The Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Emily Howatt Pliskatt Pediatric Unit provides inpatient orthopedic rehabilitation for children with congenital or acquired orthopedic conditions or injuries.

Our goal is to maximize children’s independence while addressing or avoiding complications from pain management, getting them back to home, school and community. We believe the coordination of medical and rehabilitation care advances recovery.

Our Pediatric Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program is designed to:

  • Evaluate and optimize any equipment needs, such as wheelchair, walker, canes, prosthetics and more
  • Provide leading-edge rehabilitation and assistive technology to support children’s healing
  • Help children progress through medical, pharmaceutical and pain management
  • Lead community field trips to assess and solve “real-life” accessibility challenges for children
  • Support a safe transition from home to school via school reintegration strategies
