Christian runs his race (Video)

After a severe motorcycle accident, Bethlehem resident Christian Colon would joke around with one of his Good Shepherd Rehabilitation physical therapists, McKenzie Haller, about running a 5-kilometer race.

“I didn’t know how long that was,” Christian said, laughing, during a 2025 episode of Boundless: A Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Podcast.

Just over a year later, what may have started as joking around became reality for Christian.

In October 2026, Christian completed a 5k race in Bethlehem with McKenzie running right alongside him.

During the race, they even ran through the very intersection where the accident nearly took Christian’s life in May 2023.

“They actually told my wife … I had two hours to live,” Christian said about the accident. “Pretty much my left side was crushed.”

His injuries included a broken left arm, broken left leg and nerve damage to his left leg.

For Christian, a tattoo artist and entrepreneur, the accident left him wondering about the future.

“There were concerns I would never walk again,” Christian said on the podcast. “I was very scared I wouldn’t be able to tattoo ever again because I have pins in my wrist and I had a broken left arm.”

After inpatient rehabilitation and consistent outpatient rehabilitation, Christian returned to his work, family and an active lifestyle.

Christian said perseverance and positive thinking has helped him along the journey.

“Focus on the little victories and before you know it, there’ll be a big one,” he said.

He also credited the support of his therapists at Good Shepherd.

“Rehabilitation was not easy, but it was definitely worth it,” Chrisitan said on the podcast, which is recorded at Lehigh Valley Public Media’s studios in Bethlehem. “The therapists walk you through it. They work with you where you are at.”
