$10,000 Grant Helps Fund New Pediatric Therapy Equipment in Palmerton

PALMERTON, Pa. – A $10,000 grant from AllOne Foundation & Charities has helped Good Shepherd Rehabilitation’s Palmerton site expand pediatric rehabilitation services for children with autism and neurodivergent diagnoses in Carbon County.

Through the grant, Good Shepherd created a dedicated, interactive therapy gym designed specifically to be a welcoming environment where children can build essential skills through play-based therapy.

The renovated pediatric gym, located at 3295 Forest Inn Road, features:

• Safety mats and adaptive flooring for secure movement during physical activity
• Adaptive seating to support mobility or postural challenges
• Swing attachments and suspension equipment to develop balance, coordination and sensory regulation
• A pediatric trampoline to build strength, coordination and confidence
• Interactive therapeutic toys and tools to promote communication, social interaction and problem-solving

The space supports physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy for autism and neurodivergent diagnoses, allowing therapists to collaborate across disciplines. Parents are engaged in the process, working side-by-side with Good Shepherd’s board-certified therapists to set treatment goals and apply strategies at home, school and in the community.

“Thanks to this generous donation from AllOne Foundation & Charities, the kids have benefited from new scooters and equipment like the overhead swing attachment and various swings, such as the taco swing and basket swing,” said Susan Lawfer, manager of rehabilitation services at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation – Palmerton. “Kids are now riding in and out of their appointments with smiles on their faces.”

Good Shepherd hosted an end-of-year celebration for local families on June 3 to show off the updated space and equipment. Kids tested out the equipment and toys, while enjoying refreshments and activities, and exploring the space.

In 2025, Good Shepherd’s Palmerton location, which also provides outpatient adult rehabilitation services for back pain, stroke, chronic pain, vestibular, concussion and more, celebrated 20 years in the community.
