Rock Steady Boxing

Rock Steady Boxing is a non-contact boxing exercise program that promotes fitness and function in individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. The program focuses on exaggerated movements to help participants better manage their physical symptoms.

Good Shepherd’s Rock Steady-certified physical therapists lead classes that include training with:

  • Speed/heavy bags
  • Jump ropes
  • Gloves
  • Focus mitts

Class Format

Classes are 90 minutes in length, including stretching, warm-ups and a cool-down period.

Sessions are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-4:30 p.m.

Rock Steady Boxing Coaches

  • Dori Billowitch, PTA, has been working with individuals with Parkinson’s for more than seven years.
  • Ryan Macalintal, ACS, is a personal trainer at Optimal Fitness, Good Shepherd’s fully accessible gym.

What Should I Wear/Bring to Class?

  • Wear comfortable, breathable clothes that allow you to move freely (i.e., sweatpants, athletic shorts, T-shirts, gym shoes).
  • While we have some community/shared items, for safety reasons we encourage you to bring your own boxing gloves, wraps and jump ropes. Rock Steady Boxing offers them a discounted rate.
  • Consider bringing your own yoga mat.
  • Bring a water bottle with straw.
  • Lockers are available. Ask for one at the Middle Level’s Outpatient Neurorehabilitation desk when you check in.

How to Register

We require a physician’s referral stating that you are healthy enough to participate.
