Good Shepherd Rehabilitation to Host Series of Free Adaptive Fishing and Golfing Events for People with Disabilities

April 05, 2023

Adaptive Golfing

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — For the second consecutive year, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation is hosting a series of free adaptive fishing and golfing events for people living with disabilities this spring and summer.

The only offering of its kind in the Lehigh Valley, the nine adaptive fishing and golfing outings offer a chance to learn basic fishing and golfing techniques and gain experience with adaptive equipment. The series begins May 2 with fishing and runs until mid-September with a final golfing event.

The events are open to those who are at least 18 years old and living with a disability. Registration is required.

A team of recreational therapists from Good Shepherd — Susan Bates, Linda Bollinger and Katrina Pidstawski — designed the free adaptive sports offerings.

“Fishing and golfing should be accessible to all people,” says Katrina Pidstawski, a recreational therapist at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital. “We’re looking forward to a second straight year of this series, where we can demonstrate how to use adaptive fishing rod holders, casting aids and knot-tying devices, as well as adaptive golfing equipment. We look forward to the community joining us this spring and summer.”
