Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network Appoints Michael Spigel, PT, MHA, as New President & CEO

New Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network President & CEO Michael Spigel, PT, MHA

Allentown, PA – The Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network Board of Trustees has named Michael Spigel, PT, MHA, as the organization’s next President & CEO. He will join Good Shepherd on August 3, 2020. Spigel currently serves as President & Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville, Florida.

“Good Shepherd conducted an extensive national search to find a leader with the experience, expertise, passion and purpose befitting a world-class rehabilitation network,” says Gary Schmidt, Chair, Board of Trustees, and Interim President & CEO, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network. “Most recently, Michael led a post-acute network with a continuum of care and growth trajectory that closely mirrors that of Good Shepherd, having grown from a mid-sized hospital with regional recognition to a large, nationally recognized provider.”

“Michael’s values, both personal and professional, align with Good Shepherd’s core values of compassionate care, excellent service and community partnership,” adds Schmidt. “I strongly believe that he is the right person to help us write the next chapter of Good Shepherd’s storied history.”

Spigel will replace Schmidt, who has served as Interim President & CEO since November 2018. To ensure a smooth transition, Schmidt will continue to serve as Chair, Board of Trustees.

Spigel has a long and distinguished career in health-care administration, focused almost exclusively on rehabilitation. He joined Brooks Rehabilitation in 2004 as President of the Outpatient Division. Since then, he has earned roles of increasing responsibility, including: Chief Operating Officer; Senior Vice President; Executive Vice President; and, President.

From 2000 to 2004, he worked for The RehabCare: Group in St. Louis, Missouri, in increasingly responsible roles: Executive Director; Vice President, Outpatient Operations; and, Senior Vice President, Group Operations. From 1996 to 1998, he worked for Sutter Health in Sacramento, California. He began his career as a practicing physical therapist at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Spigel earned his master’s degree in Health Administration from Chapman University in Orange County, California, and his bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland.

Spigel is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and serves on the American Hospital Association (AHA) Post-Acute Care Advisory Committee. A recognized expert in post-acute care, Spigel is often asked to speak at national conferences regarding leadership and the future of the industry. He recently served as a board member for the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program, University of North Florida Health Care Administration Advisory Committee, Leadership Jacksonville and 360 Physical Therapy in Phoenix, Arizona.
