Telespeech Program

Good Shepherd Rehabilitation at St. Luke's Monroe Campus

Good Shepherd’s Department of Speech and Communication specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, cognitive and/or swallowing disorders.

The Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Telespeech Program provides speech, language and cognitive evaluations and therapy services to inpatients via two-way video tele-conferencing on a secure network.   The Telespeech Program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

Master’s level, certified and licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide the evaluation and therapy. A health-care professional sits with the patient to facilitate the technology and assist with the directions given by the SLP.

Good Shepherd’s therapists work closely with each patient, family members and Good Shepherd’s physical and occupational therapy teams to define goals and achieve maximum results. Telespeech outcomes are measured via a Telespeech Program short survey, Press Ganey customer service survey and functional independence measureTM (FIM) scores.

For patients who require dysphagia services or who are deemed inappropriate for telespeech, based on criteria reviewed by the patients’ clinical team, on-site SLP services will be provided by Pocono Medical Center.

Good Shepherd’s multi-disciplinary approach to rehabilitation can help if you have had a neurological event, such as a stroke, or have a neuromuscular disorder, such as MS.
