Joseph E. Correll, Jr.

Joseph E. Correll, Jr., a longtime friend and donor to Good Shepherd, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011. Joe was a gentleman and a gentle man who made his mark on the world as a successful business entrepreneur, loving husband and philanthropist to many local organizations, among them, Good Shepherd.

Joe first got to know Good Shepherd about 50 years ago through his business, Home-Sew, Inc., a catalog mail order business selling sewing notions. Joe provided employment to clients with disabilities in Good Shepherd’s Work Services program who helped fill customer orders. Years later, Joe recalled with great emotion how moved he was when he visited Work Services one day and saw how proud the clients were to receive their pay checks and be valued members of the community.

Joe and his late wife Marjorie also embraced children’s needs at Good Shepherd. They supported the Golf & Tennis Invitatational benefiting pediatrics for many years and in 2007, as a tribute to his wife who passed away in 2001, Joe established The Joseph and Marjorie Correll Pediatric Chair, the first named, endowed chair in Good Shepherd’s history. The chair provides perpetual funding for a second developmental pediatrician.

Joe was a true servant of God who lived his faith in all he did. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, January 7, at The Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem.

Memorial gifts benefiting the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Unit may be sent to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, 850 S. Fifth St., Allentown, Pa. 18103.
