Irene Lendacki – An Original Flower Child

Irene Lendacki, a resident of the Good Shepherd Home-Bethlehem, passed away on August 24, 2012. Born in Reading on February 12, 1953, the daughter of Pauline and Cyril Lendacki, Irene grew up in rural Oley where she loved running through the countryside and got to know all the wildflowers. After high school, Irene went to Bloomsburg College and got her degree in accounting. When she was 25, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Undaunted by this challenge, she went to Gwynnd Mercy College in Philadelphia where she discovered her niche in computer technology. She excelled in this field and held positions at both the Bayer company in Lancaster and at Lehigh Valley Hospital.

Irene lived independently until illness brought her back to the family homestead for several years before moving to Good Shepherd in 2001 on New Year’s Eve. She was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan who “ate, drank, slept and lived” all things Phillies.  She enjoyed the resident Horticultural Club, working on the computer, dining out in the community, spending time with her Good Shepherd friends and large family, and doing crafts. A favorite beverage was apple cinnamon tea. Irene liked being as active as possible and took trips to see concerts at the Allentown Fair, attended the annual resident ball, and participated in the MS Walk.

Irene had a beautiful, upbeat spirit, and will always be remembered for her ready smile and friendly ways.
