Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network Appoints Gary R. Schmidt as Interim President & CEO

January 17, 2019

Allentown, PA – Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network’s Board of Trustees recently appointed Gary R. Schmidt of Orefield, Pennsylvania, as interim president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the post-acute network. Schmidt also serves as chair, Board of Trustees, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network (GSRN), a role he assumed in 2017.

Schmidt succeeds John Kristel, who left Good Shepherd to assume a CEO position with Government Brands, which provides financial, payment and software solutions to local, regional and federal government agencies.

Beginning with his tenure as an advisory board member in 1997, Schmidt has a long history of service to Good Shepherd. He joined the Board of Trustees for a full nine-year term, and after a brief hiatus, answered the call to continue his service to the nationally-recognized, not-for-profit rehabilitation leader. In 2017, he readily accepted chairmanship of the Board.

Schmidt recently retired from Mondelez Global, LLC, located in Tatamy, Pennsylvania, where he served as a human resource executive for nearly 30 years. Prior to that, he worked for National Steel Corporation and Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation.

He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees (MA, Labor Relations) from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

“Gary has provided steadfast leadership to Good Shepherd, serving on various boards and committees, for more than two decades,” says Jack Cooney, former GSRN CEO and Trustee Emeritus. “Gary’s vast experience and expertise in human resources makes him uniquely qualified to lead Good Shepherd during this transition. He has the full support of an active and engaged Board of Trustees that is committed to furthering Good Shepherd’s mission.”
