Preventing Household Slips and Falls

Everybody’s done it. Maybe you’re in a rush. Maybe you didn’t have time to pick up a pile of clothing, or you didn’t see that extension cord sticking out. Whatever the reason, everybody’s taken a spill or two in their home. Most of the time you’re ok, and you suffer nothing more than a bruised knee or a hurt ego.

Unfortunately, household falls sometimes can be quite serious, especially for the elderly.

Improved Balance Through Core Stability

Each year, one in three adults over the age of 65, and 50 percent of seniors over the age of 80, experiences a fall. These falls often result from the inevitable musculoskeletal system changes that result from age. Changes in posture, a decrease in walking stride and loss of balance control and stability are some of the well-documented consequences of aging.

What You Can Do To Prevent Dangerous Falls

Winter is here, and winter means snow and ice. It also can mean slips and falls!

For people who are 65 or older, a fall can happen anywhere at any time, even if there is no ice on the ground. In fact, one in three older adults will sustain an injurious fall at some point.
