Grateful Parents Host Fund Raiser

Grateful for the wonderful care their daughter received at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Unit, parents Tony and Diane Fragnito of Coplay raised $1,220 at a fund raiser held at their bar, Fragnito's Place, on May 18th and 19th. "Celebrity" bartenders were friends, customers and relatives who donated their tips along with proceeds from a 50/50 raffle.

Christina was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September 2010. She underwent two brain surgeries followed by two stays at the pediatric unit to deal with the medical complexities that ensued, among them paralysis on her right side and the loss of most of her vision.

During one of those stays, Christina turned 16 years old. The nursing staff helped her celebrate by bringing her a cake at midnight. It was acts of kindness like that and so many others, as well as the excellent care she received that prompted Tony and Diane Fragnito to hold the fund raiser.

"I stayed with Christina the entire time she was in rehab," says Diane, "and I cannot say enough about the kindness and compassion from each and every one in the facility, from the doctors, nurses, aides, and technicians to maintenance and security. Through our daughter's recovery we just knew she was at the absolute best possible place she could be. We took it one step at a time and dealt with each issue day by day and Good Shepherd was there with us at every step."

Christina continues to receive therapy through Good Shepherd's neurorehabilitation program on the south Allentown campus.
