John Raker Hudders
Atty. John Raker Hudders, grandson of John and Estella Raker, founders of The Good Shepherd Home, passed away on Monday, January 9, at the Phoebe Home. Jack, as he was known, was married to his wife Sylvia for 47 years, with whom he shared a debt of gratitude to Good Shepherd for helping him recover after a near fatal auto accident in 1997. Jack suffered severe brain injury and arrived at Good Shepherd in a coma. Six months later, he walked out of the brain injury unit, escorted by his sons.
Among Jack's many contributions to the community he loved, he was legal counsel and a former board member at the Good Shepherd Home. He also was a founding member of the executive committee of the Good Shepherd Celebrity Classic golf tournament benefiting pediatrics. The even continues to this day as the Golf & Tennis Invitational, building on a foundation of success first laid by Jack and other devoted supporters.
Jack loved life and his wonderful family and has left a legacy of compassion that endures through The John Raker Hudders Endowment Fund for continuing education opportunities for the brain injury staff at Good Shepherd. Memorial contributions to the fund may be sent to: Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network, 850 S. Fifth Street, Allentown, PA 18103.
