A Cheerful Giver - January/February 2012
Among the Bible’s many inspirational lessons, there’s one in particular that makes me smile. It’s found in Corinthians 2 and tells us, “God loveth a cheerful giver.” That message resonates with me because it so aptly describes you, our donors, who time and again, come together, giving with joy and love, knowing your gifts touch so many lives.
Our annual Golf & Tennis Invitational at Saucon Valley, slated for September 10, is supported year after year by many faithful – and joyful – donors who believe in the power of philanthropy to change children’s lives. Our Women’s Giving Circle meetings, hosted by different members, gathers us together in each other’s homes, building friendship through meaningful charitable giving. We were all inspired at a recent meeting by guest speaker and renowned philanthropist Dana Dornsife, who spoke about her charitable work at home and abroad. The Dornsifes are linked to Good Shepherd’s founding family, and Dana embodies the spirit of heartfelt and joyful giving.
Good Shepherd’s Gala in the Garden, which will be held on June 2, is already gearing up. We are thrilled to have PPL Corporation Board Chairman James H. Miller and his wife, Gail, serve as committee co-chairs. The energy and joy they bring to their volunteer leadership will no doubt attract new friends and build awareness of our pediatric inpatient unit. We are deeply thankful for that.
We have other gatherings, too, supported by faithful donors who enjoy the special camaraderie built around a shared vision. The Conrad W. Raker Sporting Clays, which raises money for continuing education for our employees, is slated for May 11. This always attracts a loyal group of sportsmen and women for a spirited day that the late Rev. Dr. Conrad Raker would have thoroughly enjoyed. And on June 8, our 1908 Raker Society members will meet for lunch and an update on all our good work.
Whether you are able to attend our special events or support Good Shepherd through our direct mail appeals, Sweet Charity, with online gifts, or through planned giving, I hope you make each and every contribution with joy in your heart. Truly, God loves a cheerful giver and so do we.
God bless you,
