Recyling Support Team Program Features:

  • Training and Support: Each team includes four well-trained and qualified workers with disabilities, along with an on-site working supervisor. Good Shepherd trains workers and provides ongoing support to ensure compliance with company GMPs and safety policies, and to ensure all team members are proficient in the use of equipment.

  • Team Management: Good Shepherd’s on-site Recycling Team Leader ensures all recycling tasks are carried out as required on schedule. The Leader acts as a liaison with plant management and Human Resources and assumes scheduling and record keeping duties.

  • Payroll Administration: Good Shepherd handles all payroll calculations and paycheck issuance. The company receives one convenient weekly invoice including all documented hours.

  • Worker’s Compensation: All workers are Good Shepherd employees and are covered by Good Shepherd’s plan. To date, Good Shepherd’s Recycling Support Team has achieved 100 percent OSHA compliance with no reportable injuries.

Landfill Free at Kraft Foods Lehigh Valley

Kraft Foods - Good Shepherd Work Services Recycling TeamRecently, Kraft Foods Lehigh Valley fulfilled its strategic commitment to become landfill-free in less than one year. They did it with the help of the Good Shepherd Work Services Recycling Support Team Program, an initiative that was developed collaboratively by Good Shepherd and Kraft Foods Lehigh Valley.

The results of the inaugural year of the program speak for themselves:

  • 16-percent increase in recyclable materials processed
  • 35-percent increase in recycling credit revenue due to better separation of materials (e.g. corrugated, stretch wrap, flex film, cores, etc.).
  • 15-percent savings in labor costs
  • No increase in capital expense to start or maintain the program
  • A reduction in compactors required

“Good Shepherd Work Services' Recycling Support Team travels through our plant on a continuous loop throughout the day collecting and sorting recyclables and then baling them for pickup. Their efforts have helped us cut our recycling costs, increase our collectible tonnage and valuable recycling credits, and keep our production areas clean and flowing smoothly. I highly recommend this program and Good Shepherd to any company looking to improve its sustainability initiatives.”  - Rusty Moore, plant manager, Kraft Foods Lehigh Valley
