Recreational Therapy
Good Shepherd’s Recreational Therapy Program involves the use of recreation and leisure activities to improve an individual’s functional skills and his or her ability to get the most out of life.
Recreational therapy at Good Shepherd improves physical, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning in order to facilitate personal growth and development. The goals of our Recreational Therapy Program are related to a patient’s overall rehabilitation goals, many of which can be addresses directly through recreational therapy services.
- Recreational therapy is utilized as a major method of treatment intervention for specific physical, emotional, social, and cognitive goals.
- Recreational therapy addresses the effect of illness and disability on an individual’s personality and on his or her family life. The patient’s family is encouraged to participate in all leisure and recreational programs in order to increase the patient’s support base and to provide the resources needed to make a smooth discharge transition.
- Recreational therapy includes community reintegration treatment outings which enable patients to practice mobility, cognitive, social, and emotional skills in an interactive setting.
