Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network today held its annual Gala in the Garden for Pediatrics on its south Allentown campus. More than 450 people attended the Gala, which raised $260,000 for the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital Pediatric Unit. 
Gala guests enjoyed dinner, music and dancing in a unique outdoor setting. Many of those who attended took advantage of the black tie and sneakers dress recommendation.
The presenting sponsor for the Gala in the Garden was PPL Corp., and Gold Sponsors were: B Braun Medical, I B Abel, Inc., Lutron Electronics Co., Matrix Service Co., McCarls, Inc.; Jim and Gail Miller; and Minnotte Corporations.
The Gala’s co-chairs were Jim (former chairman of PPL Corp.) and Gail Miller. Other members of the Gala committee were: Victoria Aitchison, Don Bernhard, Christine Cleaver, Marie Clemens, Deb Frederick, Cindy Garcia, Andy Hall, Arlene Hurwitz, Rob Hurwitz, Tom Ike, Susan Linski, Debra Martin, Colleen Mooney McGee, John McKiernan, Winnie Melinsky, Stephanie Murphy, Caroll Neubauer, Ellen Neubauer, Jeannine O’Callaghan, Rita Scheller, Judy Sheftel, Chuck Werkheiser, Debra Werkheiser, Freda Witmer and Scott Witmer.
An 8-year-old Forks Township youth was selected as the winner of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Networks’ 2012 Gala in the Garden bug-naming contest. Colin Homschek was selected from about 1,600 entries from Lehigh Valley-area elementary schools, child-care centers and the community at large. Homschek’s winning name for the bug was Sir Lights-a-lot.
All proceeds from the Gala benefit Good Shepherd’s inpatient pediatric rehabilitation unit , which is the only such unit for children in the greater Lehigh Valley region. Since opening in July of 2009, the 16-bed pediatric unit has provided acute rehabilitation care to more than 250 children recovering from accidents, injuries or illnesses.
