Good Shepherd Women's Giving Circle to Welcome Speaker Dana Dornsife at Annual Meeting9/30/2011
The Women’s Giving Circle of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network will hold its annual meeting, gift presentation and awards celebration on October 13, 2011 from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Saucon Valley Country Club. Dana Dornsife, a relative of Good Shepherd founder the Rev. John Raker, will be the guest speaker.
Dornsife will speak about her work in philanthropy, particularly her founding of the Lazerex Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit that provides financial assistance to defray the costs associated with patient participation in U.S. Food and Drug Administration clinical trials.
Dana and her husband, David, reside in California and are national and international philanthropists and humanitarians. The couple recently made headlines for donating $200 million in unrestricted funds to the University of Southern California, David’s alma mater. The University’s College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is now named for the couple.
Locally, the Dornsife’s have helped Good Shepherd renovate 3,000 square feet inside the Good Shepherd Health and Technology Center for a modern and functional outpatient pediatric therapy space. This suite has increased Good Shepherd’s capacity for pediatric rehabilitation – helping the organization serve more than 4,300 children annually. The Dornsife’s are descendants of Good Shepherd’s founder, the Rev. John “Papa” Raker, whose mother was a Dornsife.
Good Shepherd’s Women’s Circle is a donor recognition society for women. The group is open to women who support the mission of Good Shepherd by giving at least $1,000 per year to the organization.
Each year, the total amount of all gifts raised by the Women’s Giving Circle is directed to a Good Shepherd initiative chosen by the group. At this year’s Annual Meeting, the group will announce the Good Shepherd program that will be awarded more than $35,000.
Women’s Giving Circle Members Polly Beste and Dolores Laputka will co-host the October 13th event.
