Chirag J. Kalola, M.D., Joins the Spine Center at Good Shepherd

Chirag J. KalolaAllentown—Chirag J. Kalola, M.D., recently joined the staff of Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network.

With an expertise in musculoskeletal medicine, electrodiagnostic studies and interventional pain procedures, Dr. Kalola practices at The Spine Center of Good Shepherd, which specializes in non-operative medical treatments and pain management for a wide spectrum of joint and spine disorders.

Dr. Kalola is returning to the Lehigh Valley where he first earned a bachelor of science degree in biology and natural science from Muhlenberg College in Allentown. He received a medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. Most recently, Dr. Kalola completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois.

At the Good Shepherd Spine Center, Dr. Kalola provides comprehensive care for a wide variety of musculoskeletal problems, including treatment for back pain, nerve root irritation including sciatica, spinal stenosis and various types of joint pain (shoulder, knee, hip) due to osteoarthritis or tendonitis/bursitis. The Spine Center features a state-of-the-art imaging center (CT and MRI), as well as a fluoroscopy suite with C-arm equipment where patients can receive spinal injections. Dr. Kalola also performs electrodiagnostic studies (EMGs) to help diagnose disorders such as carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve entrapments.

“Joint or back pain can have a tremendous impact on a patient’s functional abilities and sense of well-being,” said Dr. Kalola. “However, in many instances we can identify the cause of the pain and formulate a treatment plan, which can include various types of physical therapy interventions and pain control to get a patient back to doing the things they want to do.”

Dr. Kalola is a current member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the Association of Academic Physiatrists.
