Good Shepherd Celebrity Classic Gala Kicks Off Good Shepherd's 100th Anniversary

Allentown—More than 650 people attended the 20th annual Good Shepherd Celebrity Classic, which was held Sunday, September 9, at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena in Bethlehem. The Celebrity Classic Gala was the kick-off event for Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network’s 100th anniversary. During the Celebrity Classic Gala, the series of events scheduled to celebrate Good Shepherd’s 100th anniversary were announced. The events are scheduled to run from fall 2007 through fall 2008.

Good Shepherd Home was founded by the Rev. John H. and D. Estella Raker in 1908 when they invited a disabled orphan into their home in Allentown. From humble beginnings as a home for children with disabilities and senior citizens, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is now a national rehabilitation leader focused on helping patients, clients and residents live fuller, independent lives.

The Celebrity Classic benefited Good Shepherd’s Pediatrics Program, which logs more than 20,000 therapy visits each year for children with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, cerebral palsy and a host of other physical and cognitive conditions. More than $2 million has been raised by the Celebrity Classic for the Pediatrics Program in its 20-year history.
