Imaging Center at Good Shepherd Opens in Health & Technology Center
Digital Imaging Suite Provides Special Care to People with Mobility Limitations

Allentown—For people who use a wheelchair or have mobility issues, having a CT scan or MRI may be difficult at most standard radiology facilities. The Imaging Center at Good Shepherd, LLC, took the needs of people with disabilities into account when it designed, equipped and staffed its imaging suite.

The 3,600-square-foot Imaging Center, which is open to the public, is located on the main level of Good Shepherd’s new Health & Technology Center at 850 S. Fifth Street in Allentown. The Imaging Center provides digital imaging with a new Siemens Emotion 16-slice CT scanner and a new Siemens Symphony MRI scanner. The Imaging Center began taking patient appointments on October 16 and will be open for imaging on November 1.

While the Imaging Center provides services to anyone needing a CT scan or MRI, all of the rooms and corridors in the suite are larger and wider than what is standard, in order to accommodate assistive technology such as wheelchairs. The MRI has support equipment (including a non-magnetic wheelchair and stretcher) to allow patients with disabilities and special needs to enter the MRI environment. In addition to certified imaging technicians, a full-time nurse is available at the Imaging Center to ensure that patients with medical support equipment or special needs receive necessary help and care during imaging services.

“When we planned the Imaging Center at Good Shepherd, we took into consideration the difficulties that some of our patients experienced having an MRI or CT scan done at other centers,” says Jim Sok, executive vice president, Operations, Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network. “The Imaging Center in our Health & Technology Center will make it easier and more comfortable for people with disabilities and mobility issues to have these tests performed. People of all abilities will find the Imaging Center to be a convenient, pleasant setting for quality imaging services.”

The Imaging Center at Good Shepherd will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and by special appointment during evenings or weekends. All insurances are accepted. For more information to make an appointment, call 610-778-1060.
