Good Shepherd Celebrity Golf & Tennis Classic to be Held September 11 at Saucon Valley Country Club
Proceeds Benefit Good Shepherd’s Pediatric Rehabilitation Program
Allentown—The 19th annual Good Shepherd Celebrity Golf & Tennis Classic will be held Monday, September 11, at Saucon Valley Country Club (SVCC).
The golf tournament will pair a national or local celebrity with each foursome for the shotgun scramble. Among the celebrities invited to participate are: former Buffalo Bill Andre Reed; Olympic gold medal cyclist and Trexlertown native Marty Nothstein; former Phillies Robin Roberts, Art Mahaffey and Bobby Schantz; former Phillies’ manager Nick Leyva; former NBA All-Star forward Jack Marin; Sports Illustrated senior writer Jack McCallum; former Chicago Bears Tom Donchez and Mike Hartenstine; former Philadelphia Eagles Frank LeMaster and Pete Retzlaff; former New York Jet Greg Murphy; ABA and NBA basketball player Artis Gilmore; and former Phoenix Cardinal Joe Wolf.
The golf entry fee is $1,000 per player. Entry includes: two tickets to the Good Shepherd Celebrity Classic Gala (being held on September 10 at the Holiday Inn Conference Center in Fogelsville and featuring dinner and a performance by former ESPN commentator Roy Firestone); all greens fees and a cart; a golf clinic; buffet breakfast; two tickets to the afternoon barbeque and awards ceremony; and a goody bag filled with gifts.
The tennis tournament will be led by professional tennis coach Ron Holmberg. The tennis entry is $400 per person and includes: two tickets to the Good Shepherd Classic Gala; all court fees; a tennis clinic; buffet breakfast; two tickets to the afternoon barbecue and awards ceremony; and a goody bag filled with gifts.
Both the golf and tennis events begin at 10 a.m.
The Celebrity Classic is expected to raise more than $150,000 to benefit children who receive therapy at the Good Shepherd’s Pediatric Center, which serves more than 1,300 children a year. Corporate sponsorships are still available for the golf and tennis tournaments.
