Multiple SclerosisLiving well in spite of Multiple Sclerosis demands perseverance, adaptation, and innovation. It also takes dedication to devising strategies and refining strengths in order to accomplish goals in the face of physical, mental, and emotional challenges. Good Shepherd's Multiple Sclerosis Program is a comprehensive and individually tailored system of rehabilitative services designed to help achieve these goals:

  • Enablement and enhancement of safe mobility, including assistive devices, wheelchairs, and power scooters
  • Training in daily living activities, including use of adaptive devices and energy conservation techniques
  • Home evaluation designed to improve accessibility and safety
  • Driving training, including use of adaptive controls
  • Assessment and treatment of cognitive and emotional changes associated with MS
  • Counseling designed to help individuals and families cope with the challenges of MS
  • Speech improvement and/or use of alternative communication strategies
  • Improvements in swallowing and nutrition
  • Continence training, including urodynamic evaluation
  • Enhancement of respiratory function
  • Development of leisure skills and interests
  • Availability of inpatient MS services while receiving intravenous medication
