Movement Disorder Program
Good Shepherd's Movement Disorder Program provides the assessment and rehabilitation of functional disabilities related to neurological disorders, with specialization in Parkinson's Disease. Our team of professionals works closely together to provide an individualized rehabilitation program designed to meet the specific needs of each patient.
Movement Disorder Program Components:
- Neurology, neuropyschology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy assessments
- Individualized home exercise programs developed and instructed prior to discharge from formal therapy programs
- Variety of post-discharge programs including Movement Disorder Exercise Group, Fitness Program, Communication Group, and Senior Exercise Group (includes aquatic exercise)
Movement Disorder Evaluation & Assessment:
- Neurologist: Will provide initial and follow-up consultations regarding the diagnosis and management of various movement disorders.
- Neuropsychologist: Will interview patient and family members and perform a complete assessment of patient's mental status and intellectual functionality.
- Physical Therapist: Will assess and help improve posture, flexibility, strength, balance, and general movements including walking, bed mobility, and transfers from various surfaces.
- Occupational Therapist: Will assess and treat daily living skills including dressing, grooming, bathing, and home management. Home site visits may also be scheduled as needed; the need for adaptive equipment will also be addressed.
- Speech Therapist: Will assess and treat difficulties with speech and voice production, as well as impairments of swallowing function.
