Water is the ideal environment for safe, effective physical rehabilitation. The Aquatherapy Program at Good Shepherd is your ideal choice for advanced aquatic therapy. Aquatic therapy at Good Shepherd is held in our heated, 1,200-square-foot aqua-therapy pool, conveniently located in the Good Shepherd Health & Technology Center.
Perfect for patients not yet ready for traditional physical therapy, aquatic therapy allows you to safely exercise while drastically reducing stress on joints and muscles. Good Shepherd’s highly trained aquatic therapists specialize in the area’s most advanced aqua-therapy treatments.
Good Shepherd’s aqua-therapy pool is also home to a variety of classes within our Aquatics Program, including:
- Aqua YogaPilates: This program integrates yoga poses and pilates exercises in a warm-water environment to increase health and muscle tone, reduce stress and promote relaxation.
- Circuit Training: This unique program invites participants to rotate between stations in the water to work on strength, endurance and range of motion.
- Arthritis Pool Program: This warm-water exercise program for individuals with arthritis is designed to ease joint pain and increase mobility.
- Water Walking: This independent walking and exercise program is designed to maintain and improve fitness and wellness in a warm-water environment.
- Tension-Releasing Ai Chi: This eight-week program is designed to increase relaxation, range of motion, and mobility. Specific benefits of Ai Chi include reduction in pain and stress, increased balance and mobility, increased range of motion, increased strength and endurance, and an increase in circulation and relaxation.
- Core Training with Rehabdominals: This eight-week aquatic therapy program focuses on strengthening the core abdominal muscle group.
- Therapeutic Aquatic Bodywork: This individualized program uses gentle stretches to increase range of motion throughout the body. Specific benefits include increased flexibility, increased range of motion, and increased relaxation. Therapeutic Aquatic Bodywork also decreases muscle tension and spasticity.
- Learn to Swim...Again: This program provides individuals with an opportunity to learn to swim again after a disabling condition. During individualized sessions, instructors use various swimming strokes to increase muscular strength and endurance, range of motion, and balance.
- Pediatric Pool Program: This unique eight-week program teaches children how to swim and have fun at the same time. The Pediatric Pool Program is specifically designed to teach children with disabilities about water adjustment and teach swimming skills through the use of adaptive techniques and equipment in order to maximize independence in the water.
