Early Intervention Program
Serving children with disabilities from birth to 3 years old in Lehigh and Northampton counties, the Good Shepherd Pediatrics Early Intervention Program offers developmental care in a child’s natural environment (home, child care center, nursery school, play group, other family setting).
In collaboration with team members from the county, other service providers and family members, Good Shepherd’s therapists develop individual goals for each child. Regularly occurring activities throughout the day are utilized to enhance the child’s development, functional activities and independence.
Early Intervention services, which are provided at no cost to families, include:
- Physical development, including vision and hearing
- Cognitive development
- Communication development
- Social or emotional development
- Adaptive development
As determined by the county, eligibility for the program includes: a significant delay in one or more areas of development; a specialist’s determination that a delay is evident despite not showing up on assessments; and a known physical or mental condition that has high potential for developmental delays.
