Good Shepherd specializes in evaluating and treating:
The IMPACT Concussion Management Program for Sports Concussions After sustaining a concussion, you should consult with a neuropsychologist or other professional familiar with post-concussion symptoms and the recovery process. Designed specifically for athletes, Good Shepherd's Sports Concussion Program, which is overseen by a clinical neuropsychologist, offers clinical consultation and remedial intervention recommendations. Good Shepherd is a credentialed consultant of the IMPACT™ Concussion Management System, which compares your cognitive skills pre- and post-concussion. By comparing the baseline data to the post-concussion data, neuropsychologists can make accurate recommendations as to when you should return to the field following an injury. The IMPACT Concussion Management System is used by amateur and professional teams throughout the United States including the National Football League and Major League Baseball. Ideally, you should be tested before any accident or collision occurs to provide a baseline against which future tests can be measured. This should be conducted at the beginning of the athletic season and takes approximately twenty minutes. However, if you have not been administered baseline testing, your scores can be compared to those of a normative group. After sustaining a concussion, you should be evaluated within 48 hours. A post-concussion evaluation at Good Shepherd is typically covered by insurance. Good Shepherd sports concussion services can be set up as both telephone and face-to-face consultations and will be arranged as concussion symptoms dictate. Neuropsychologist services: At Good Shepherd, clinical neuropsychologists provide evaluations and treatment in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Clinical neuropsychologists are licensed psychologists with expertise in how behavior and skills relate to brain structures and systems. Neuropsychological evaluations are specialized testing procedures to help understand how the brain is working in order to help with treatment planning. The evaluations assess intellect, executive skills, attention and concentration, memory, language, visual spatial skills, and motor and sensory skills. Mood an personality are also assessed.
