Cognitive/Linguistic Treatment
| Brain Injury | Sports Concussion |

Cognitive/Linguistic TreatmentGood Shepherd's Cognitive/Linguistic Treatment Program is a therapeutic intervention system designed to provide services to children, adolescents, and adults who have sustained a brain injury that has altered their ability to manage daily activities.

Individuals referred for cognitive/linguistic treatment are first seen for an evaluation, after which an individualized remediation program is designed. Each remediation program includes short- and long-term goals collectively developed by the patient, family members, and a Master's level speech/language pathologist. Program assessment will identify deficits in the following areas:

In conjunction with Good Shepherd's School Re-Entry Program, cognitive/linguistic treatment services provide students, family, and academic professionals with the resources needed to facilitate re-entry into an academic setting following brain injury or mild brain injury recovery. When geared toward school-aged patients, cognitive/linguistic treatment will be structured with emphasis on the following:

  • Length of school day
  • Support services
  • Individual learning styles and study skills
  • Transportation to and from school
  • Adaptive equipment
  • Counseling
  • Peer support groups
  • Social skills

When adult Cognitive/Linguistic Treatment is required, Good Shepherd will adjust our treatment approach to address any number of home, community, and work re-entry issues:

Home/Community:

  • Cooking/cleaning
  • Financial management
  • Home safety
  • Child care
  • Transportation
  • Organization
  • Compensatory strategies
  • Medication management

Work Re-Entry:

  • Environmental setting
  • Length of work day
  • Support services
  • Compensatory strategies
  • Transportation
  • Social skills
