The purpose of the Good Shepherd Driver Evaluation and Training Program is to determine an individual's ability to safely operate a motor vehicle (with or without adaptive driving aids) and provide appropriate driver training. Evaluations provide physicians with objective data for use when completing medical forms from the State Bureau of Driver Qualifications.
Good Shepherd’s Driver Evaluation and Training Program is designed for persons who have physical or cognitive disabilities including, but not limited to, the following general categories:
• New drivers
• Amputees
• Birth defects
• Brain injury
• Neuromuscular diseases
• Spinal cord injury
• Stroke
Evaluation and training takes place when the individual is medically stable, is functioning at maximum physical and cognitive capacity, has been seizure-free for at least six months, and has had all necessary visual corrections. Individuals may be referred by physician, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Workers’ Compensation, or self-referral.
