The rehabilitation of an athlete who has sustained a concussion often requires consultation with a neuropsychologist or other professional familiar with post-concussion symptoms and the recovery process. Designed specifically for athletes, Good Shepherd's Sports Concussion Program offers clinical consultation and remedial intervention recommendations.

Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital—Allentown

Good Shepherd is the only rehabilitation facility in the Lehigh Valley that uses a state-of-the-art software package, known as the IMPACT Concussion Management System, to compare the memory skills and reaction times of athletes pre- and post-concussion.

The IMPACT concussion management system was developed by the University of Pittsburgh and has become one of the most widely used computerized diagnostic programs in the world. Neuropsychologists, athletic trainers and physicians use the system in working with athletes across all levels of competition – high school, college and professional.

The IMPACT system gives physicians an empirical way to compare the memory skills and reaction times of athletes pre- and post-concussion. Ideally, athletes are tested before any accident or collision occurs to provide a baseline against which future tests can be measured. Then, by comparing to the baseline data, physicians can make accurate recommendations as to when athletes should return to the field following an injury.

Good Shepherd sports concussion services can be set up as both telephone and face-to-face consultations and will be arranged as concussion symptoms dictate. For more information, contact us today or call 1-888-44-REHAB (24 hours a day, 365 days a year).
